Try Thai!

There are so many great places to eat in DC and many of them are just minutes from campus. If your looking for Thai food, there are two great options just around the corner. Charm Thai located at 2514 L Street NW, is just off Washington circle. Although best known for their Pad Thai, Charm Thai offers a variety of authentic dishes, ranging from garden rolls to Pad See Eaw. My personal favorites include Tom Yum Soup, which is a hot and sour lemongrass soup, and the Imperial Pad Thai, Charm Thai’s delicious Pad Thai wrapped in a thin egg omelet topped with shrimp. Charm Thai’s prices range from about $11-30 but luckily for us they accept GWorld. Yelp Elite user Samantha says it best “Whether it’s ordering out or dining in, Charm Thai never lets me down!” but don’t take our word for it, try it out for yourself!

Soi 38 located just off New Hampshire Avenue at 2101 L St NW, is putting a new twist on signature Thai dishes by offering “creative Thai street food”. While you can still find the classics like Pad Thai and Chicken Satay, you can also sample a variety of their specialties. These include everything from Kua Kling, which is a spicy southern style dried curry of Thailand, ground pork, fresh chili, lemongrass, garlic, to Som Tum, a green papaya, dried shrimp, string beans and cherry tomato salad. While Soi 38’s prices are comparable to Charm Thai they do not accept GWorld. However, Soi 38 is a great place to go if you are looking for a wonderful atmosphere, great service and chance to try something new!

Hello World

The other day I arrived back to the district from vacation and thought for a minute. Being a DC resident for some time now I have come to notice that we as DCist’s seem to go home to get our haircut if at all possible. Even if it may be Maryland.

I thought to myself that this is a NEED we must bring the bread to the people!

I am embarking on a journey throughout the semester to find the best place to get a signature cut.

I hope to visit barbers for both men and women around the district and get a feel for what their clients are like, what they expect from the hair cut, and how it actually turns out.

I do not know very much about hair but then again how much do you know about hair?

Let the journey begin!

What’s Your Plan For The Evening?

Looking for a place to have fun tonight? DC is defiantly one of the best places for nightlife! There are plenty of excellent places to grab a drink or two across the city!  These two neighborhoods blend together down the DC Metro Red Line. Dupont and Adams Morgan have great bars with a casual vibe, but are home to some great clubs at night too. And Kabin should be on your checklist!  It’s located at 1337 Connecticut Ave NW, 2 minutes walk from Dupont Circle Metro station, or 15 minutes walk from Foggy Bottom.

Kabin has the best DJs for those who love pop music! It’s never the same generic top 40s playing and everyone is always dancing and enjoying themselves! The staff is great and will always accommodated you well. Especially the bartenders, they are all very kind and bouncing around to the music with smiles on their faces. They truly do love their jobs. The decoration at Kabin is obviously one of the best. This is the place that you shouldn’t miss!

Why Pay to Exercise, When You Can Run for FREE?!?

Washington, D.C. has LOTS of fitness classes, boutique studios, and exercise options, but before we talk about those, I would like to point out the obvious… D.C. is BEAUTIFUL and has SO MANY FREE places to stretch your legs! Whether you’re training for an IronMan, marathon, half marathon, 5k, or just want to make it up a flight of stairs without dying, there are so many trails to take advantage of!

For the nature lover: if you follow the Georgetown Waterfront towards Key Bridge, you will run right into Capital Crescent Trail! This trail spans 11 miles, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to squeeze in some cardio or burn off an entire chipotle burrito plus guac- you are all set.

If 11 miles of beautiful waterfront isn’t for you, perhaps PANDAS (!!!) are more your speed. They may not seem related to running (I know, because pandas are my lazy spirit animal), but if you want to see pandas and other fun (but arguably less fun) animals while running, then Rock Creek Park is for you! This awesome route will take you from the Georgetown Four Seasons, all the way to the Smithsonian National Zoo, where you can take a breather with Ambika the Elephant.

(Side Note: great opportunity to listen to Kanye’s remix of Panda, while seeing actual pandas! #OnlyAtGW?)

And of course, what would a DC running guide be if it didn’t include the National Mall?!? Whether you’re going for a short jog to the Lincoln, cruising over to the White House to wave to the Obamas, or grinding up Capitol Hill to check out the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress, this route provides ample distractions to spice up your daily run!
